2005 – Jean Stahl (MA)

We are here today to present the Local Legend Award to a person that has dedicated years of service to dance community.

The Local Legend Award was established in 2002 to honor those individuals and couples who have advanced the goals of the SDFNE by their actions within their local areas over the years. The goals are the promotion, preservation, and perpetuation of the square and round dance activity.

Jean Stahl has served on the Board of Directors of the SDFNE for many years; is the Secretary for SEMCA, a position she has also held for many years; is the secretary of the Side Splitters SDC; was the secretary for the Old Colony Callers Association from 1979 to 1993 and has taken an active part in community activities for over 50 years.

Jean and her late husband, Jack Stahl (a square dance caller), started the SEMCA Calendar and initiated the King & Queen Ceremony held at the SEMCA Ball.  This marks the 28th anniversary and Jean continues to be the Coordinator of this event.  Jean is a resident of Walpole MA, has a teaching background and is the proud mother four daughters, Joan, Jill Judith and Joyce.
