The strength of our activity is dancer leadership and dedication. These special attributes are clearly shown in the couple we pay homage to, Fred & Betty Smith.

Fred & Betty Smith not only enjoy the dancing but work to ensure that others may also enjoy our activity. They are actively involved in recruiting, angeling and leadership in their Square Dance community.

Fred & Betty started dancing with the Covered Bridge Squares of Shelburne, Vermont. They have served as Presidents of the Lake Champlain Squares several times and were involved in forming the Area Club Committee that acts as a coordinating group for the local clubs.

They have served as delegates to the State Association and were the Vice Chairmen of the 25th and 26th New England Square & Round Dance Convention held in Burlington, Vermont.

Fred & Betty have also been involved in the operation of the Jack Frost Frolic and the Maple Sugar Festival.

Besides Square Dancing, the Smiths have been involved in Scouting and The Green Mountain Club, a conservation organization that works to preserve and protect the Long Trail in Vermont.

With the presentation of this award we acknowledge your contributions to the Square Dance Community and underscore the challenges you offer by your good example.
