Ray and Carole Aubut typify what square and round dancing is all about. Friendly, fun loving people, they are often called “Mr. and Mrs. Square Dancing.” They are devoted and dedicated to our activity.

Ray and Carole started square dancing in 1966 with the Town Travelers Club of Lowell. They eventually held many offices in the Town Travelers. Ray started calling in 1970 and also called for the Alpine Squares for 8 years. They were founders of the Slips and Clutches.

During their long career they have had and still hold many titles and positions. A major part of their lives has been devoted to our dance activity. Among these activities are Tri-State delegate to NECCA, NECCA delegate to Co-Op, Chairman of Co-Op, Caller programmer for the 1979-80 New England Convention, permanent clerk of NECCA and Director of the Square Dance Foundation. Ray also started the 800 number and is presently chairman of the Committee. For eight years Ray and Carole published and edited the New England Caller, now the Northeast Square Dance Magazine.

Outside the square dancing world, Ray has for many years worked with the local hospital, driving cancer patients to and from the hospital for treatments. It’s people like Ray who make a hard time a little easier for these patients. He has also devoted many hours to the Heart Fund Drive and was involved in forming the Town Taxpayers Association of Dracut. Carole was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, assisted by Rayon special scout projects. She has been involved in the Town of Dracut‘s Friendship Women’s Luncheon for the past 20 years and was President in 1974.

In addition to the many positions and contributions that Ray and Carole have held, they have raised a family of three daughters and are now enjoying the joys of grand parenting.

They are one of the warmest, friendliest couples you could ever meet. Their square dancing involvement, their contributions, their loving and caring qualities all add up to their deserving this Yankee Clipper Award,
