2005 – Bud & Judy Clifford (VT)

Square Dance Leaders

Bud and Judy Clifford were graduates of the Hazen Squares square dance class in Hardwick VT in 1982.

They have continued advancing in square dance levels through C2 and have become accomplished round dancers as well.

They became charter members and the first treasurers of the Twirling Sams, the only square dancing Good Sam Charter in VT. They went on to become Vice President & held the office of President twice. As members of the Twirling Sams, they were VT Chapter delegates. They edited and printed four editions of a 16 page, Good Sam Newsletter from 1999 through 2000. 3000 copies were distributed. They are life members of Good Sam.

They have been President, Vice President, Secretary and Vermont Convention Chairmen for the Vermont Association of Western Style Square Dance Clubs and have received their 8th Good Neighbor pin, an award earned by traveling throughout the Vermont Association, while dancing with a many as 22 member clubs annually.

They belong to numerous square dance clubs including the Hazen Squares/Buffalo Mountain Dancers, Lyndonville Country Corner Squares, the Morrisville Lamoille River Swingers, The Advanced 60’s, ‘The Twirling Campers, The MontShire Campin’ Squares and the Littleton Square Dance Club.

Since 1983, they have driven 2 hours each way to Burlington to attend Friday and Saturday evening workshops and Saturday dances. They have attended all but two NE Square and Round Dance Conventions since they became part of the activity. They participate in demos on TV, at nursing homes, at town fairs and march in parades for the promotion of this activity.

Their most recent accomplishment has been as Chairmen of the very successful 46th & 47th New England Square and Round Dance Conventions held in Brattleboro VT.

With all that said, Bud & Judy have time to run a dairy farm in W Danville VT. Judy teaches 3rd & 4th grade students as well as Sunday school. They are proud parents & grandparents and are involved in numerous local, non-dance activities.

It is a privilege to recognize their many years of devoted work on behalf of the square and round dance movement, by inducting them into the Square Dance Foundation of NE Hall of Fame.
