Square Dance Leaders
Introduced to the square dance activity by their son and daughter in 1961, Ernie and Ellie embarked on an adventure spanning 32 years of involvement in leadership roles with strong organizational skills. Just about every New England dance organization has been influenced by them.
They have served on numerous committees and as Presidents of the Shindiggers Square Dance Club, Eastern District Square and Round Dance Association and the Square Dance Foundation of New England. One can further appreciate their contribution when we add to this impressive list of service their organizational and leadership roles in the Shindiggers Teens, Joey Fund Drive, formation of the New England Council of Round Dance Teachers, formation of the North Shore Square and Round Dance Association, delegates to Co-Op for 20 years, serving on the Yankee Clipper Award Committee and one of the founders of the Square Dance Foundation of New England. As a long time member of the Board of Directors they headed a significant fund raising drive to purchase Kramers Hayloft, increased the membership base, served as Chainman and on the Board of Trustees in the operation and management of the property along with numerous other committees with hands on efforts. They have always led by example.
They have been a viable force in the creation and growth of a New England Heritage center for educational advancement on dance and as a historical dance resource to the community. They have unselfishly given of themselves to the square dance activity in sharing of their time and talent. They exemplify the true spirit of square dancing as a sharing of one’s self for the betterment of many. Those who have come to know them, value their friendship and recognize their influence and contribution to the New England Square Dance Scene. They are indeed at home in New Englands Dance Hall of Fame.
